Learn how amortization schedules, interest rates, loan EMI calculations, and percentage savings impact your money.
Why Financial Literacy Math Matters
Whether you are applying for a mortgage, purchasing a vehicle, evaluating investment returns, or budgeting seasonal sales, accurate financial calculations save money and prevent costly mistakes.
How EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) Works
EMI is the fixed monthly payment amount made by a borrower to a lender at a specified date each calendar month. The EMI formula balances interest and principal reduction over time:
EMI = P × r × (1 + r)ⁿ / ((1 + r)ⁿ - 1)
In the early months of a loan term, a larger portion of the payment goes toward interest. As time progresses, more of each payment pays down the principal balance.
